A REMINDER TO OUR PASSIONATE SUPPORTERS
Everyone knows we have some of the most passionate and enthusiastic members and supporters in the WAFL but passion and enthusiasm can also make us behave in a manner we normally wouldn't.
I received a letter from a member this week which serves as a reminder to us all to be aware of our conduct - both at home and at away games. While we never want to dampen the cheers of encouragement towards our players, we do ask all members and supporters to consider those around you at all times. Wear the red and blue with pride and remember your behaviour directly reflects the reputation of our great club.
An excerpt from the letter reads as follows:
I took my son to the game on Monday against East Perth at Leederville Oval. We sat in the Subiaco Members stand with other families, some elderly couples, and some groups of men.
We are West Perth supporters through the good games, and not so good games.
May I ask that you send out an email to all members, requesting that they refrain from the use of foul language towards the opposition team and the field umpires. I was extremely embarrassed and ashamed that supporters from both sides were looking at the Subiaco Members stand with disgust, shaking their heads. I feel that my son and I have been tarnished with the same brush from their behaviour, not to mention the damage to the reputation of the West Perth brand.
This is the main reason why I have not taken my son to an AFL match at Domain Stadium. I said to my son that we have another game away this weekend against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval. He was hesitant and not as keen as usual ... when I finally found out why, he said it was “because of those men”.
Please take the time to consider the above as everyone has the right to a safe and enjoyable experience at the footy. It is a timely reminder of our obligations within the West Perth FC Code of Conduct.
Thank you.
