West Perth Les Fong 16's (Futures) Pre-season Training- Trials Squad

Wednesday, November 7, 2018 - 9:17 PM

Congratulations to the following players for being selected to participate in the West Perth Les Fong 16s (Futures) Pre-season Training/Trials Squad for the 2019 Simply Energy WAFL Futures season.

This is a fantastic accomplishment and with over so many participants in these age groups playing at Community Clubs throughout the West Perth District it’s a great achievement to have been identified at this level.

A further congratulations also to all our local Clubs who continue to produce outstanding talent year after year.

Welcome and congratulations on being invited to Season 2019.  We are very excited about the upcoming season and our goal is to continue to develop and build upon our improvements from 2018.

The West Perth Les Fong 16’s program focuses on developing players, both on and off the field. Our aim is twofold, that whenever you leave this program, you are a better footballer, and a better person.

At this stage of the year everyone is hopeful and enthusiastic of the opportunities that lay before them, however, it is mindful to remember that this is an elite program for the best football talent within the West Perth District.  You are entering a highly competitive environment.

“BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE”

The main objectives of the program are:

  • Provide a development opportunity for all players, coaches and umpires
  • Provide an opportunity for the selected players to test themselves against the best emerging young footballers in a competitive environment
  • Allow WAFL Clubs to provide a team and coaching environment in which every individual has the opportunity to develop and display their talent, leadership and determination in a competitive environment and in doing so prepare players for progression to Colts or the WAFL State 16’s Academy
  • For all players to be enriched by the experience and encouraged to continue their involvement in the game commensurate to their ability

What matters in the first instance is how you perform between now and Christmas, the second part is how you perform after Christmas and finally how you perform throughout the carnival for those that make the final squad.

There will be no ‘gift’ games and as an elite program, it is no longer about everyone getting a game or equal game time.
