Friday, June 5, 2015 - 4:20 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth has a short turnaround to rebound from the WA Day Derby loss to East Perth to now return to the winner's list on Saturday against Peel Thunder in Mandurah to maintain second spot heading into the bye with young key position player Tyler Keitel to debut.

Peel Thunder and West Perth have both had similar rollercoaster seasons so far in 2015, sit on the same record and have played out some thrillers in recent years with it all point to a hard fought and tight affair at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.

Peel hosts West Perth in Mandurah on Saturday with the Thunder and Falcons both entering the contest inside the top-five on 5-4 records with the winner likely to finish the round in second position while the loser could end up out of the top-five altogether.

ROYALS TOO GOOD FOR FALCONS

Wednesday, June 3, 2015 - 10:05 AM - by DARRELL KENT

EAST Perth had the better of West Perth in the WA Day Derby at Medibank Stadium on Monday. After an even first term the Royals had the better of the contest and they drew away to record a 48-point victory. The home side consistently took advantage of any West Perth errors to hurt them on the scoreboard and this was the difference between the two sides.

NO FALCONS COMEBACK THIS TIME IN WA DAY DERBY

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - 9:52 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth couldn’t put together a third stunning comeback in the last five games with East Perth recording a 48-point victory over the Falcons in the WA Day Derby at Medibank Stadium.

Despite East Perth kicking the opening three goals of the game, West Perth did hit back and end up hitting the lead by quarter-time and again early in the second quarter.

However, East Perth kicked 11 of the last 15 goals of the derby to end up winning 18.11 (119) to 10.11 (71).

WA DAY DERBY PREVIEW V EAST PERTH

Sunday, May 31, 2015 - 1:55 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth looks to continue its momentum it had prior to the State game last week with the Falcons aiming for a third straight win and to further consolidate second spot on the ladder in Monday's WA Day Derby against East Perth at Medibank Stadium.

Neither East Perth nor West Perth have forgotten what happened just three weeks ago when they last met and now that sets up a WA Day derby clash on Monday at Medibank Stadium with plenty of the usual spice that is there between the two fierce rivals.

Back in that game, East Perth blew a 42-point lead late in the third quarter to end up losing by 38 points and that was a game that the Royals were hurt by, and will be desperate to bounce back from but the Falcons took plenty confidence out of kicking the last 12 goals of that game.

STRIJK ENJOYS WAFL WIN OVER SANFL UNDER A FALCONS GREAT

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - 10:22 AM - by Chris Pike

ANDREW Strijk has plenty of highlights throughout his decade-long career but his two best State game memories have now been wins over South Australia following Western Australia's 45-point win at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Strijk has now played 155 games for West Perth since making his WAFL debut in 2006 and he added 13 matches in the AFL with the West Coast Eagles, and has now represented the WAFL four times in State matches.

And along the way he has become a WAFL premiership player, won a West Perth fairest and best awards and had plenty of career highlights, but the wins over the SANFL in State matches are right up there.

Strijk was part of the WA team that beat South Australia by a point in 2009 to break a 15-year drought and then again on Saturday, he starred in WA's 45-point win over the Croweaters at Lathlain Park.

STRIJK, BLACK LEAD WAFL TO BIG WIN OVER SANFL

Monday, May 25, 2015 - 3:55 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth might have only had two representatives in Western Australia's team that beat South Australia by 45 points in Saturday's State game at Lathlain Park but Aaron Black and Andrew Strijk were two of the best players on the field.

The two Falcons stars had tremendous games for the WAFL State team as they ended up beating the SANFL 18.13 (121) to 11.10 (76).

West Perth initially had six players named in the State squad before Falcons co-captain Jay van Berlo had to withdraw due to work commitments.

Premiership small defender Laine Rasmussen and star ruckman Chris Keunen were then informed early in the week that they wouldn’t be playing despite being in terrific form and having done well representing the WAFL last year in the 85-point win over the NEAFL in Sydney.

WAFL STATE GAME PREVIEW V SANFL

Friday, May 22, 2015 - 8:18 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth premiership trio Aaron Black, Shane Nelson and Andrew Strijk will be looking to lead the WAFL to a State game victory over the SANFL at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Black, Nelson and Strijk have been the three West Perth players selected in the WA team to take on the Croweaters and all enter the State game in outstanding form.

Black is coming off winning the Sandover Medal in 2014 on the back playing in the 2013 premiership and also representing the WAFL in the State game win over the VFL, where he was one of the best afield.

He is backing that up with another outstanding season so far with the Falcons and has now been selected to play for WA again after missing out in 2014.

Nelson continues to be an in-and-under ball winning machine and clearance maestro for the Falcons.

Despite having played in the 2013 premiership, won the last two club fairest and best awards, representing WA last year and finishing runner-up in the Sandover Medal, Nelson has taken his game to another level again this year so far.

And Strijk is also back to his very best form so far this season with his running ability and damaging right boot seeing him already deliver a host of best on ground, and match-winning performances for the Falcons.

IN THEIR WORDS – JAY VAN BERLO STATE GAME

Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 3:01 PM - by Jay van Berlo

ONE of the toughest aspects of WAFL football is juggling work and football and it is not uncommon for players to be up before dawn for work and not get home until after training finishes late that night.

It is a massive commitment but one that players will do because of our love of the game and will to get the best out of our football, and of course to pay the bills.

I am a business development geophysicist for Australia and New Zealand regions for a geoscience company called DownUnder GeoSolutions. My work often requires me to travel interstate and overseas and this obviously complicates things for football.
